Romantic cellist Adam Hurst returns to Faerieworlds

“There are some artists whose work literally stops you dead in your tracks. You catch your breath, transfixed, afraid that if you breathe it might fade and dissolve. Encountering art at this level triggers an immediate, intimate familiarity, yet it is unlike anything you know, only what you have hoped would be. The experience is transporting, ecstatic, poignant and achingly beautiful all at once, in a moment of meeting that you will never forget. This was my experience in first hearing the music of Adam Hurst” -Robert Gould

World Renowned cellist and composer Adam Hurst uses his instrument as a melodic voice to create passionate and emotive musical poetry that speaks to the soul. His music has hints of Middle Eastern, Indian, Eastern European, Native American, Latin and Celtic traditions while being completely his own. He has performed throughout the US and Europe and has been commissioned to compose and perform original work for Film and dance performances. His music has played on various radio shows around the world including Echoes on NPR stations in the US. Adam Hurst’s compelling live performances are not to be missed.

Mr. Hurst has released thirteen CDs of original music. His most recent is called “Nightfall”.

MBRASCATU

Mbrascatu is a fusion of the cobbled streets and cafés of the Old World and the creative melting pot of Portland. The band is a group of talented musicians that draw from very different musical backgrounds to create a unique blend of sounds encompassing European and American roots.

Since the formation of the band, back in 2010, Mbrascatu, has performed extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest delighting many at the hottest music venues, outdoor festivals, bars, clubs and local radio stations.

If you are not one of the lucky explorers who has already discovered the magic of this band’s music, stop reading, hit play, and submerge yourself in the first song before reading any further. The band features impressive vocals, fantastic arrangments, making surprising use of banjo, ukelele, lap steel, viola, violin, bass, electric and acoustic guitar, and exhilarating drumming. The rhythm, which can be portentous, energetic and catchy, sometimes all at the same time, will get you dancing, the singing will resonate in your chest and the strings and drums will carry you away.

“Andrea Algieri’s Old World-by-way-of-PDX collective Mbrascatu is a modern throwback to traditional music lore. Since forming the group stateside in 2010, the Calabria-born singer-songwriter-guitarist has conjured up sonic postcards direct from the quaint villages of southern Italy. If the band’s name, a tribute to Algieri’s grandfather, or debut album cover, with its photo of his mother at 16, don’t speak to the deep roots present here, the music will. Various strings (viola, banjo, ukulele), lap steel and other lush instrumentation echo Algieri’s expressive vocals, delivered in his native tongue.” AMANDA SCHURR.

“Great news, Oregon: we can visit Italy without ever leaving the Pacific Northwest. Local Portland band, Mbrascatu, lives right here and we can take a trip to the other side of the world simply by listening to their newest savory album, Tempo. Bandleader, Andrea Algieri puts his heart and passion into every song he writes and sings on this album. The other band members- Johny Sabestinas, Dylan Dean, Dan Sullivan and Lalo Esparza- lend their individual musical energies that also take the music to a new level of appreciation. Sabestinas plays an impressive array of different instruments ranging from ukulele to mandolin to electric guitar. Dean plays his fiddle in a way where you can feel the warmth of his ever-present smile in each song. This is the band’s second offering and although it doesn’t include as many ballads as their self-titled album, you will enjoy the rocking goodness found in almost every track. The tittle track will have you dancing and singing along after just one listen. So, go ahead. Pour yourself a little limoncello, eat a few olives and figs, hit ‘play’ and you are all set. Ciao!” DENNISE KOWALCZYK.
